Landscape Experiments

Landscape Experiment #1 and #2 investigate sculptural form in photography by questioning the materiality of a landscape and it’s commodification by means of human manipulation. #1 slims a sunset over Chicago (by way of northwest Indiana) into a cone to resemble a sconce. The horizon, sunbeam, and sky gradient render lines of curvature to enhance its likeness to a sconce’s design and utility. #2 displays a distressed photograph of the Smokey Mountains in Lake Lure, North Carolina. The abundant forestry encapsulates a wooden 2x4 and battles to be seen against a byproduct of human design.
